Frequently Asked Questions

Orthodontic treatment is a specialised type of dental care that focuses on straightening teeth and correcting jaw alignment. Using braces, clear aligners, plates, or other appliances, orthodontics helps improve the function, health, and appearance of your smile. A properly aligned bite also makes it easier to keep your teeth clean, reduces wear on your teeth, and can prevent future dental problems.

No referral is required. You can book directly with Amanda Lawrence Orthodontics for an initial consultation. That said, many of our patients are referred by their family dentist, and we work closely with local dentists across Hampton and surrounding Bayside suburbs to ensure coordinated care.

A dentist looks after general oral health, including fillings, crowns, and gum care. An orthodontist is a specialist dentist who has completed additional university training focused on diagnosing and correcting misaligned teeth and jaws.
Dr. Amanda Lawrence is a fully qualified orthodontic specialist with advanced expertise in braces, Invisalign®, and complex bite correction.

We offer a range of modern orthodontic treatment options to suit different lifestyles and clinical needs, including:

- Traditional metal braces

- Ceramic (clear) braces

- Invisalign® clear aligners

- Early orthodontic treatment for children

- Teen and adult orthodontic solutions

During your consultation in our Hampton clinic, we’ll recommend the most effective option for your smile goals.

No, you’re never too old for orthodontic treatment. We regularly treat adults of all ages at our Hampton practice. Invisalign® and discreet braces are especially popular with adults seeking a more subtle way to straighten their teeth while maintaining a professional appearance.

Invisalign® uses a series of custom-made clear aligners that gradually move your teeth into their ideal positions. Each aligner is worn for around 1-2 weeks before progressing to the next set. Your treatment is digitally planned by Amanda to ensure precise, predictable results.

The cost of orthodontic treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case and the type of treatment chosen. At Amanda Lawrence Orthodontist, we provide:

- Transparent pricing

- Flexible monthly payment plans

-Interest-free options through Denticare

Depending on your individual needs, your personalised treatment plan and exact costs will be discussed during your consultation.

Yes, Invisalign® treatment can be as effective as traditional braces for mild to moderate orthodontic issues, such as crowding, spacing, and some bite problems. However, for complex cases involving severe misalignment or jaw issues, traditional braces may offer more precise control and better outcomes.

You may experience mild discomfort or pressure when braces are adjusted or when starting a new Invisalign® aligner. This is normal and usually settles within a few days. Most patients find the discomfort manageable and temporary.

Treatment time varies depending on your individual case, but most orthodontic treatments take 12-24 months. Some minor cases may be completed sooner, while more complex cases may take longer. We’ll provide an estimated timeframe at your initial consultation.

Most patients visit the clinic every 6-8 weeks for adjustments and progress checks. Invisalign® patients may require slightly fewer visits. Our Hampton clinic offers flexible appointment scheduling to suit busy families and professionals.

Don’t panic, this is not cause for concern. If the separators fall out naturally within a day or two of your next appointment this usually means they have worked and enough space has been made between the teeth.

We suggest that you call our reception to let them know, they will advise you on whether you need to come in to have them replaced. Often this is not necessary.

When they are first placed in the mouth, separators can feel quite strange – like food is lodged between the teeth. Your back teeth may also feel tender for up to 2-3 days after the separators have been put in place. This is quite normal, as the separators are moving the teeth to create room.

You can seek relief through a mild analgesic, such as Nurofen or Panadol. Remember to ask your parents first and always follow the directions on the packet, or talk to a pharmacist for further advice.

Stick to eating soft foods such as yoghurt, banana or soup to reduce any further discomfort.
